Carryduff ‘B’ vs SOPFC
U16 Shield Third Group 2 – Henry Jones Pitch 23/03/19

Carryduff started brightly on a beautiful crisp morning and within the first couple of minutes we had forced a corner through some high pressing football. The corner was swung in from the right and as it dropped at the back post with a few players ready to tap home, a Plunkett player drove into his own net while trying to clear the danger. Jude was creating havoc with his strong surging runs behind the defence latching on to fantastic passes from Ethan and Jack along the left touchline. Any Plunkett attacks were being comfortably cleaned up by Michael and Kian at the back, and Eamon continued where he left off last week with another steady assured game at RB. Kian’s clearances and goal kicks are astounding to watch, and really has strengthened our defence this year. Jamie S had little to do in nets, but did pull off one stunning save, pushing the ball past his right hand post when it looked like it would definitely sneak in. Jack lofted a beautiful swerving pass in the 21st minute which cleared their entire defence and Conor was waiting gratefully at the back post to head home! With only 2 minutes of the half left, Luke took a corner from the left and scored direct when it curled home at the near post for our 3rd goal.

In the second half, Plunkett came back at us strongly, and got a goal back. A bit of indecisiveness allowed them to shoot through a crowded area and it crept in just past Jamie’s outstretched leg. We took the warning well and really upped our game again. Mark battled well on the left flank and was picking some fabulous defence splitting passes but we just couldn’t get the finishing touch. Ben, Lewis and Jamie G really controlled midfield throughout the match and some of the interlinking play was a joy to watch. Niall, now slotting in at RB, was his usual tenacious self, intercepting attacks and getting us back on the front foot. Ethan looked to have got us a fourth as he was sent through, but the recovering defender and keeper combined to force his shot wide. Declan was now closing down passes and challenging on the right wing and again we were using the width of the pitch to create openings for the midfield to try to exploit. Jack almost provided Conor with his second of the game with a driven pass that was just a fraction ahead of him arriving unmarked at the back post. Jack could well have got himself on the scoresheet with a left foot volley from the edge of the area which was just inches over the bar. Jude finally added to his impressive goal tally late on with another powerful driving run through the defence and assured finish.

Final score Carryduff B 4-1 SOPFC
