2016-05-07 11.30.54-2xThe 2008 Colts finished the Lagan Small Sided games season on a high with an impressive display in a competitive game against Hillsborough Boys Colts.

This week, Oisin, Owen, Eoin, Liam, Cal, Noah and Luke took part and they started the match at a ferocious pace, taking shot after shot in the first 5 minutes which Hillsborough Boys found hard to defend against.

Throughout the course of the first period the Colts looked comfortable. Owen battled continuously in midfield and tried to feed the ball to Eoin up front. Cal repeatedly tried to get past the Hillsborough midfield and took some long range shots, Owen and Luke in midfield pressed the Hillsborough team continuously, not giving them any time on the ball.

In the second and third periods, the Colts players moved into positions they were not as comfortable with, and the Hillsborough team came right back at them. At this level, it is important that players get an opportunity to play in every position, especially those positions they are weakest at, and this experience is helping the team to develop every week. Half way through the period the Colts gave away a penalty which Hillsborough scored but the boys kept their composure for the rest of the period.

In the final period, the players had more flexibility in their positions and started talking to each other more to ensure they had cover across the whole pitch, so they decided themselves where to play. Some great goals and moves ensued, with a great pass from Cal to let Oisin score with his first touch, and a superb pass from Eoin to set Liam through to score a rocket style goal which the goalkeeper had no chance of saving.

Well done to all involved, a great season from the 2008s who have come on so much in the last year. Here’s looking forward to next season when the games move to 7-a-side.
