Firsts win an Eight goal thriller

Carryduff Colts 5 – 3  22nd Old Boys

The First got back to winning ways in the league with an important 3 points against 22ND Old Boys on a very wet day at Loughmoss.

The tone of the game was set by the inspirational Conor Magee whose first pass opened up 22nds defence for the lively Sherry who’s shot was saved by a keeper in fine form.

It was not long until Magee opened up the scoring with a mazy run through the middle and shot past the keeper. The unfortunate Sweeny had to be replaced shortly after by Maguire due to injury but it did not stop The Colts putting 22nds keeper under more pressure as Magee, Irwin, McNally Sherry and Maynes were causing no end of trouble for their back four and it was not long before Maynes capitilised on a mistake and scored the 2nd goal with a fine strike.

The energetic McAvoy made it 3-0 soon after and the first half belonged to the home team.

The second half started off with The Colts again dominating possession and, after good work by Sherry and Magee, once more Irwin scored a well-deserved goal to make it four.

McAvoy bundled in his 2nd after a free kick from the impressive Holden at left back and everyone thought game over.

That then started a last 20 minutes which, if we had any, would have John and myself pulling our hairs out. The loss of skipper Mc Donnell did not help matters and with some poor play and constantly giving free kicks away outside our box allowed the opposition to pull 3 goals back to make it a tight finish which never looked likely at 5-0.

However we saw out the game and won a valuable 3 points.
