Greenisland U17 2 Carryduff Colts 5

Greenisland 2 - 5 Carryduff Colts
08 Oct 2016Greenisland

The Colts turned up at one of the best venues in the country, Greenisland’s home venue, three quality grass pitches which are full size!

The Colts had all of the opening play, pinning Greenisland in their own half for long periods, and used the full width of the pitch by spraying the ball from side to side. The Greenisland keeper was in inspired form today, with saves from Caolan Cunningham, Michael Lawson, Leo McGowan, Paul Doherty, Donal Healy…… just to name a few! but the score remained 0:0, how?

With 10 minutes to go in the first half Greenisland broke down the left and as Colts keeper Peter Duncan came out to block Greenisland first shot the striker calmly lifted the ball over his head and into the net, 1:0 Greenisland! this really shocked the Colts who headed straight up the field, and as the ever energetic Caolan Cunningham cut into the box he was tripped….. penalty to the Colts, up stepped Michael Lawson, strikes the ball to the keepers right….who goes the right way making a fantastic save!

Greenisland had another push into the Colts box, and after a good save from Peter Duncan the rebound was sweated into the net, 2:0 Greenisland!!
This really fired the Colts up, and with minutes to halftime Michael Lawson burst into the box and tucked away a neat goal, at last the Colts had got past the Greenisland keeper.

Halftime, 2:1 Greenisland.

The second half stared much the same way as the first, with the Colts in control, and it was that man Cunningham who made it 2:2, yet another mazy run down the left, cutting inside to slot the ball home.

The Colts controlled the game after this, and it wasn’t long before Caolan got his 2nd and the Colts 3rd, almost a carbon copy of his fist but now from the right hand side. Greenisland pushed hard and Peter was called to make a few saves, but the Colts were well on top, and after another piece of close control and fast feet from Leo  McGowan he took a heavy challenge in the box, penalty! undeterred from the first half save Michael stepped up and tucked the ball into the back of the net, 4:2 to the Colts.

Not to be outdone by Michaels brace, Caolan went on another run down the left, and the time as he closed in on goal he opened up his body and curled his 3rd into the far right corner of the goal.

The Colts ran out 5:2 winners with an excellent performance and progress to the 2nd round of the NIBFA Cup.

Goals: Michael Lawson 2, Caolan Cunningham 3
Man of The Match: Caolan Cunningham
