A hard fought win for the Carryduff boys against very tough opposition!

Carryduff continued their winning run against a very physical Andersonstown Celtic team in a match that displayed some fantastic goals, crunching tackles and great defending from both teams.

Jack, Ciaran, Rhys, Danny, Owen and Cal were all tremendous today and fought hard throughout the entire game, played as a true team with a determination and effort that showed real character.

Carryduff started the opening period at a relentless pace and through some unbelievable swift passing and movement, were soon 4 goals up with great finishes from Jack, Ciaran, Owen and Rhys. Danny and Ciaran were immense yet again in defence breaking up every Andersonstown Celtic attack. Our boys continued to dominate the match, and had at least 10 other shots which rattled the post and crossbar and the Andersonstown Celtic keeper made many great saves to keep the score at 4-0. The Andersonstown boys pulled one back at the end of the first period but the Carryduff boys were always in control. (4-1)

The second period was a very physical encounter with crunching tackles from both sides and great defending from both teams. Cal made his mark on the game with a great finish from distance and with Owen as his midfield partner, both boys were everywhere on the pitch, driving at the Andersontown Celtic defence at every opportunity. The Andersontown attack never once made it past Danny in defence – he stood firm at all times and showed a fantastic level of composure, reading the ball well and making the tackle at the right time.

Andersonstown Celtic pulled one back with minutes to spare in the second period with a fine finish but Jack soon added to his tally with a great strikers goal – pouncing on the defender and stealing the ball before firing home into the bottom corner. (6-2)

The third period started with a lot of heavy challenges by the Andersonstown team preventing the Carryduff boys from getting any rhythm in the game and the boys started to lose a bit of momentum giving Andersonstown Celtic the opportunity to pull a few goals back to 6-5. The boys were rattled by this and fought back with a few attempts on goal but couldn’t find the net with a series of chances. Andersonstown soon levelled the score at 6-6 and to the boys credit, they didn’t panic but instead showed unbelievable character and determination with Rhys soon thumping one in with a devastating right foot and Jack increasing the lead with another with Owen set him up nicely after winning the ball in midfield. Andersonstown pulled one back to 8-7 with a few minutes to spare and brought on Peter Schmeichel to do nets to try and get the win. But Ciaran won the ball in defence and passed up the line to Cal who set Jack up to finish in style and seal the game 9-7.

Jack and Rhys were unbelievable in attack today, defending from the front to always put the Andersonstown defence under pressure and both boys scored some fantastic goals.

Owen and Cal were fantastic in midfield – both boys ran the show, tacking, defending, running at the defence and with all round box to box performances and goals!

Ciaran and Danny were phenomenal in defence – cool, calm, composed, tough tackling and as always providing the platform for all our attacks.

This was a real team effort today – the boys showed fantastic character and determination and we are so proud of them all!!!!!

Well done Cal, Ciaran, Owen, Danny, Jack and Rhys – you did us proud!
